TaxTech NG is currently in pre-launch development. This platform is not yet available for public tax filing. All features, designs, and content are subject to change before the official 2026 rollout.

Getting Started

Understanding TIN, BVN, and Informal Filer options

TaxTech NG supports multiple identification paths to ensure all Nigerian taxpayers can file their 2026 taxes, regardless of their documentation status.

What is BVN and how is it used?

BVN (Bank Verification Number) is used for secure identity matching. When you provide your BVN, TaxTech NG validates it through secure APIs and uses it to verify your identity during the filing process. Your BVN is never stored in raw form—it is masked and hashed for security.

What is TIN and who needs it?

TIN (Tax Identification Number) is required for formal filings by salaried employees, registered businesses, and freelancers who maintain detailed income records. If you have a TIN, this is your primary tax identifier. If you don't have one, TaxTech NG can help you file using your BVN or assign a Temporary TIN during the filing process.

Informal workers without TIN

Informal sector workers (artisans, traders, POS operators, hawkers, transport workers) may file without a TIN using presumptive tax rules. The system assigns a Temporary Filer ID that is valid for the filing period. This ID is used exclusively for informal presumptive filings and is not a permanent tax identifier.

Temporary TIN generation

If you're a formal worker but don't have a TIN, the system can generate a Temporary TIN for NRS receipt matching purposes. This Temporary TIN is issued during the filing process and may be replaced by a permanent TIN once NRS processes your submission.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need both BVN and TIN?

No. If you have a TIN, that's your primary identifier. If you only have a BVN, that can be used for identity verification. Informal workers may not need either if they qualify for presumptive filing.

Is my BVN safe with TaxTech NG?

Yes. TaxTech NG never stores your raw BVN. All BVN data is masked, hashed, and transmitted through secure APIs. Only temporary verification tokens are retained.

Can I file if I don't have BVN or TIN?

Informal workers can file using basic information (name, phone, business type) and receive a Temporary Filer ID. Formal workers will need at least a BVN for identity verification.
